Narrative Description of the Project:

Strengthening Urban Resilience Project (SURP)-II was a consortium-based project led by Save the Children International (SCI) in partnership with Plan International Bangladesh (PIB) and funded by European Commission - Civil Protection & Humanitarian Aid Operations (ECHO) and it was implemented by Population Services and Training Center (PSTC). The principal objective of the project was to reduce the impact of urban hazards and risks in Bangladesh through the application of a systematic, inclusive and coordinated approach to enhance the earthquake preparedness and response capacities of urban stakeholders.

Developing a Policy Brief on Safe Cities and Effective City Governance for Parliamentary Standing” was a part of the SURP project which was successfully completed by IPTM from January to March 2021. The key objective was to develop a policy brief for safe cities and effective city governance for parliamentary standing committees on disaster management and relief with a view to revising the policies and operationalizing them through the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief (MoDMR) and also facilitating policy brief with parliamentary standing committees to contribute for making cities safe and effective city governance. Under this assignment, a total of 20 participants attended the workshop in 01 (one) batch.

Key Activities:

• Made draft detail methodologies or outline, work plan, and sharing with PSTC/PI-DDM
• Finalized work plan and methodology.
• Reviewed literature & secondary documents and field works including PRA and consultation with respective stakeholder.
• Drafted policy brief and made it presentable for sharing Pl-DDM/PSTC for review.
• Reviewed the document by PI-DDM/PST
• Facilitated draft document respective stakeholders through validation workshop.
• Revised document as per the feedback and prepared for final proofing and approval.
• Presented the final framework document with respective stakeholders and took approval.
• Prepared the final document for printing including the cover page design.
• Prepared the final workshop report and sent it to PSTC.
