Narrative Description of the Project:
The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is working to improve the livelihoods of the refugees and host communities in the selected areas of Ukhiya and Rohingya Camps with other DRC’s sectoral interventions like protection, shelter, and site development support. The DRC aims to enhance the lives of both the host community and refugees in the Ukhiya and Rohingya camps. This assignment specifically focused on mushroom cultivation as a means to empower women in the host community and camps, provide them with income-generating opportunities, and increase their self-confidence. This initiative, IPTM's training on mushroom cultivation from November 2020 to February 2021, aims to enhance capacity, particularly for vulnerable women, and generate their income sources. In this training, 40 (forty) selected women participants from the host (Rajapalong and Palongkhali union) and refugee camps in Camp-8, the participants received training in 02 (two) batches, and the participants were all from female-headed households in Rohingya Camps. A 3-day long hands-on training was conducted on mushroom cultivation. The assignment's main objective was to equip participants with skills in mushroom cultivation, troubleshooting, pot rearing, and harvesting while fostering market linkages and employment opportunities. DRC supported and monitored the participants, facilitating their engagement with local traders and vendors to improve livelihoods and create a sustainable income source.
Key Activities:
- Inception meeting with DRC officials and submitted the inception report.
- Conducted Training Needs Assessment (TNA) and reviewed the relevant document documents.
- Developed the training module on Mushroom Cultivation and Market Linkage Development Training for 3 days long (English and Bengali) addressing details of methodology and market linkage.
- Conducted training session on 'Mushroom Cultivation' for 2 (two) batches.
- Submitted the final report of the training.
